Cape Town - Presenter and former beauty queen Claire Mawisa (38) recently shared some of the difficulties she experienced when she became pregnant at the age of 19.
In a recent social media post Claire says she lost many people she thought were close to her when she became pregnant with her now 19-year-old son, Neo.
“I lost most of my friends during the pregnancy and first year of my child’s life; partly due to the fact that none of them were moms yet.”
Claire says it took her a few years to get them back, “and I remembered to make more of an effort when they were pregnant and in that first year, to keep in touch with them.”
Claire is delighted that she has reconnected with her friends.
“Now that we're all moms, we have things in common again. It's a natural phase [losing friends]. Life is also a lot during that time of mommyhood.”
Raised in Gugulethu, near Cape Town, Claire’s career skyrocketed when she became the youngest person – and only the second black female South African – to grace the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine.
Claire has been a presenter on Metro FM; has hosted Live and Dangerous, alongside Phat Joe, on Yfm’s breakfast show; was the presenter on Team Leader on SABC1; and is currently presenting M-Net’s magazine and actuality programme Carte Blanche.
