Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney took to Instagram to thank Costco for "saving the day". Claire, who plays Cassie Plummer in the ITV soap, had bought a birthday cake for her son, Jaxon, in celebration of his tenth birthday.

When the cake she ordered didn't arrive, however, the 53-year-old took a trip to Costco to make sure her son wasn't disappointed on his birthday. Filming the Costco staff on her Instagram, she thanked the "talented" women for "saving the day".

In a series of later videos, Claire warned her followers to avoid the cake company. The mum alleged that not only was the cake delivered 'a day late' but she claims it also 'arrived in a battered cardboard box', and 'bore little resemblance to the cake she had ordered'.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Claire said the cake was "rubbish", with "pieces of paper" for decorations. She told fans: "I've never spent that much money on a cake before and I thought I'd make it super special for [Jaxon] because it's his tenth birthday, and I'm taking him to Warhammer which is free entry. So I thought, 'I'll get him a really amazing cake'.

"Go to Costco, I'm telling you. £16.95 and it's fantastic. We will not be eating the other one. Absolute disgrace, I can't believe I paid that much for it." She continued, "Costco is the way forward for birthday cake."

The Liverpool-born actress has been a hit with fans since she joined the Cobbles last year. Cassie has been at the centre of a number of major storylines as she repaired her estranged relationship with onscreen son, Tyrone Dobbs.
