Clara Amfo brought The One Show to a brief pause, moments after cameras started rolling on Wednesday night's episode, to send a heartfelt message to colleague Lauren Laverne, following the news she has been diagnosed with cancer. And Lauren herself also had a word of thanks for the wealth of support she's had from viewers at home.

Sunderland born TV and radio star Lauren prompted an instant outpouring of support when she took to Instagram to reveal that she had cancer, posting a selfie on her in a hospital bed and writing: "I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery."

The former Kenickie singer and Top of the Pops host continued: "I’m in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness. To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way - I am so very grateful and love you so much."

Lauren, who has been a member of The One Show team for some time now, as well as fronting 6 Music Breakfast and Desert Island Discs, also used the post on her Insta grid to thank her BBC colleagues for their support and understanding, as well as urging those who've had possible symptoms of cancer to get checked out straight away, adding: "I also want to say that if you’re avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out please, please do it today. Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything. It’s usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here."

Many stars were quick to offer Lauren their well wishes, including her One Show co-host Roman Kemp, who responded with a love heart emoji and, almost as soon as cameras started rolling on Wednesday's edition of the long running programme, presenter Clara paused proceedings to say; "We also wanted to share huge, huge love to our dear friend Lauren Laverne, who earlier today shared the news she has been diagnosed with cancer."

Clara continued "Thankfully, she's expected to make a full recovery,. she herself said it just shows the importance of getting checked. Lauren also wanted to pass on her thanks to each and everyone one of who you have sent a message of support."

Co-star Alex Scott then told Lauren and everyone watching at home that they 'could not wait' to have her back in the studio.
