A 1977 Porsche 911S used in Scandinavian TV drama The Bridge has sold for £125,000 at the Bonhams sale at Goodwood's Festival of Speed, with proceeds from the sale donated to WaterAid.

Finished in the quintessentially Seventies 'Jager Grun', the Porsche stars alongside Swedish actress Sofia Helin, who plays the cold but emotionally complex detective Saga Norén. Not only has it developed a cult following of its own, it's arguably one of the most significant on-screen cars of the past decade.

"It's exciting when any car sells above estimate, but this is completely different," said Bonhams spokesperson Poppy McKenzie Smith. ""The Bridge Porsche is on a par with the Morse Jag, the Dukes of Hazzard Charger or the Miami Vice Testarossa.

"We had more than 20 bidders registered before the sale who were interested in the car, and had to bring in extra staff to man the telephone bid lines.

"To raise such a huge amount for charity is absolutely fantastic, and we are blown away by the interest that this car has generated. It really is an icon!"

The car is a manual, left-hand drive model is not UK registered. Its full history is unknown, but it comes with Swedish registration papers (that include the names of previous owners in Sweden) and is known to have been imported to Europe from San Francisco in 2009, having been restored at some point beforehand.

This car has been subject to some scrutiny online, with observers questioning the exact nature of its provenance. The chassis number, however, confirms that it is a 1977 2.7-litre 911S Coupé, built for the United States market.

Proceeds of the sale, which takes place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, will go to WaterAid, an international charity that works with local organisations around the world to provide clean water and sanitation to some of the world's most disadvantaged people. Sofia Helin is an ambassador for the charity and is flying to Sussex to attend the auction.

The car was introduced in the first series of the programme, which ran for a further three seasons between 2013 (2014 in the UK) and 2018, the final episode airing in June. Saga Norén is a Swedish police detective who works closely with fellow protagonist and Danish counterpart Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia) the lead homicide detective in Copenhagen for the first two series.
