An East Ayrshire Councillor has slammed the culprits responsible for the latest spate of damage at Cumnock Bus Station.

Conservative Councillor for Cumnock and New Cumnock, Neill Watts, labelled the actions of the vandals as “mindless behaviour.”

Cllr Watts’ comments came after a glass panel was completely smashed at the station on Saturday, September 21.

It’s not the first time damage has been done to either the glass windows, or the bus stances, at the station. Various reports have been made with regards to damage and vandalism at the terminus stretching back for the last three years.

A clean-up operation was well under way after this latest damage. And Cllr Watts visited the site to see first hand the damage caused.

He said: “After being contacted by concerned constituents last Saturday (21/09/24) about the further escalation of damage at the Cumnock Bus Station, I contacted Ayrshire Roads Alliance to inform them of the completely damaged pane of glass which had been vandalised and was lying on the floor.

“I visited the site today (Tuesday) to look at the new destruction caused by this mindless behaviour. Ayrshire Roads Alliance are now in the process of removing the pane and making the area safe.”

Cllr Watts continued: “This escalation in damage is completely unacceptable, Ayrshire Roads Alliance have contacted Police Scotland Ayrshire and all steps will be taken to try and find the culprits.

“It is a disgrace when everyone is working hard to improve our town and a mindless element are wrecking improvements that have been made!

“Plans are currently being drawn up by officials in Ayrshire Roads Alliance to sort the Bus Station for the long term.”

Police are investigating.

A spokesperson added: “We are following a positive line of enquiry regarding vandalism to Cumnock Bus Station.”
