Autumn is well and truly here and winter is not too far behind. As the wet weather rears its ugly head once again, it can be harder to keep your car clean, as muddy children and dirty dogs trash your vehicle’s interior.

If you want to keep your beloved motor sparkling clean without forking out for professional valeting or expensive cleaning products, you will love these simple and effective cleaning tips from TikTok user Chantel Mila. Chantel regularly treats her one million followers to many ingenious cleaning, styling and DIY hacks.

In one of her latest videos, Chantel has shared a series of hacks “you wish you knew sooner” to keep your car feeling and looking fresh.

Clean cup holders with a cloth and a drinks bottle

Your car’s cup holders can get mucky quickly, as dirt and dust gets stuck to those spillages from your favourite fast-food restaurant cups. To clean them, Chantel suggests wrapping a microfibre cloth around a drinks bottle and spraying the cloth with some household cleaning spray.

Next, place the bottle into the cup holder and turn it while applying some pressure so the cloth it is wrapped it wipes away any dirt like magic.

Clean tight crevices with a thin grout brush

Have you ever dropped something down the side of your car seat and been shocked at the amount of dirt down there when you have gone to retrieve it? Well, this simple but effective tip is a great way of cleaning in those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.

All you need is a thin grout brush – or any similar household brush – to help you get into the many tight crevices around your motor and brush away any offending dirt.

Use leather cleaner to tackle tough stains

According to Chantel, leather cleaner is a great way to “easily” remove tough stains from your car’s leather seats. First, ensure you use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of any loose dirt, dust, pet hair, or whatever is spoiling your precious motor.

Next, spray a clean cloth with your favourite brand of leather cleaner and wipe away those stains, leaving your leather seats looking new-car-clean.

Line seats with a towel to keep them cleaner for longer

Tired of getting your car seats ruined by muddy children or soggy pets? Simply covering the seats with a towel – though any blanket or covering should also be adequate – will protect them and prevent the need for frequent cleaning, giving you more time to do the things you love.

Make your own window cleaner

No glass cleaner? No problem – just make your own. To keep those car windows looking shiny, create a mix of cleaning vinegar and equal parts water and apply it to a clean cloth or kitchen roll.

Simply give that glass a wipe using your DIY glass cleaner and leave it looking squeaky clean.
