Cleanup Begins After Flooding in Peru

Cleanup operations were underway in Ancon, Peru, on Wednesday, March 15, after heavy rainfall brought flooding and a mudslide to the area the day before.

Video livestreamed by the Municipality of Ancon shows the remnant flooding and the cleanup.

Local media reported a mudslide caused by heavy rain from Cyclone Yaku.

The government declared a state of emergency on Wednesday for several towns in the Lima region, including Ancon.

Cyclone Yaku started forming off the coast of Peru earlier this month. The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) forecast on Wednesday that the cyclone would continue to move farther from the Peruvian coast in the following days. Credit: Municipality of Ancon via Storyful
