Cleanup Efforts Continue in North Carolina Town After Devastating Hurricane

Cleanup and recovery efforts continued in western parts of North Carolina on October 1, in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Footage captured by Ezra Penland shows residents, volunteers and cleanup crews in the town of Marshall on Tuesday afternoon.

“People are recovering. Some lost everything and are having to stay in shelters,” Penland told Storyful. “But people are helping each other as best they can.”

On Tuesday, the state’s National Guard said it deployed close to 800 members to assist with recovery operations. Credit: Ezra Penland via Storyful
