Cleanup Efforts Underway After Train Derails in Southern Nebraska

Cleanup efforts were underway after a train derailed near Gothenburg, Nebraska, during the early hours of Tuesday, February 21, according to local news reports.

Union Pacific told local news that it was investigating the incident after approximately 30 Union Pacific train cars carrying coal derailed about three miles southeast of Gothenburg at 1:45 am.

Footage captured by Jesse Ambler shows multiple vehicles surrounding the derailed train. Ambler told Storyful that crews had started cleaning the area on Tuesday morning.

Local news reported that there were three derailments in the region in 2022.
