Cleveland police say they are hunting a suspect who broadcast a murder on Facebook Live.

Officers said Steve Stephens claims to have committed multiple killings.

In a statement, they said the suspect was armed and dangerous.

He is believed to be driving a white or cream-coloured 4x4.

NBC reported that a video posted to a Facebook account apparently showed someone filming walk up to an older man and shooting him dead.

The video was captioned “Easter day slaughter” but was later taken down.

"Suspect did broadcast the killing on Facebook Live and has claimed to have committed multiple other homicides which are yet to be verified," Cleveland police said in a statement.

An archived version appears to show him pulling up in his car next to his victim.

“Found me somebody I’m going to kill, this guy right here, this old dude,” he appears to say in the video.

He appears to claim he has killed as many as 14 people. Police said they were searching a number of locations but could not so far verify the claims.

In the posts, he blamed his ex-girlfriend for leading him to kill.

Officers are stationed along East 105th Street where he claimed online to be shooting people.

Cleveland State University advised students to stay away from its campus to stay where they were and “shelter in place”.
