Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion gather in London to demand end to Silvertown Tunnel project

Climate activists from the Extinction Rebellion (XR) group gathered in central London today (October 29) to call for a new tunnel under the Thames to be scrapped. The protesters met outside the financial services organisation Macquarie Capital which, they claimed, is a major investor in the Silvertown Tunnel. XR called on the company to withdraw support for the project that they see as environmentally damaging. According to Transport for London, the road tunnel will link Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula and should open in 2025.
