Clinton Morrison reignites Aston Villa feud with plea to Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner
Clinton Morrison has backed Birmingham City to follow the Ipswich Town route and achieve back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League after their enormous summer outlay.
Blues signed 17 new players during the summer transfer window, including record buy Jay Stansfield, to give Chris Davies the tools to win League One at the first attempt. Having made an unbeaten start in the league, Blues host table-toppers Wrexham at St Andrew's on Monday in one of the third tier's most high profile fixtures.
Morrison expects their League One stay to be a short one and believes his former club have what it takes to get promoted next season as well - on the proviso that chairman Tom Wagner and Knighthead greenlight another spending spree.
"Birmingham can secure back-to-back promotions. One million percent yes," Morrison told BirminghamLive via 10bet.

"They can do back-to-back because they’ve got a good manager. Ipswich had an unbelievable manager in Kieran McKenna, and I don’t think we can put Chris Davies in that class yet. Davies has worked with some great managers in Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou, there’s no doubting his potential and he will certainly have the financial backing of the owners.
"The owners will be the ones that can have a major influence on whether the club can get back-to-back promotions. We’ve seen their ambition in League One, and there’s nothing to suggest that they wouldn’t splash the cash if the club were promoted next season."
Morrison's three-year Blues career was played out in the Premier League and he fared well against arch-rivals Aston Villa. The striker scored twice in six appearances against Villa as Blues dominated the Second City derby with four wins and two draws between 2002 and 2005. The 45-year-old wants Blues fans to experience the joy of derby day success once again.
He added: "I hope Davies can do it. I’m going to be confident and say, they can. We need Birmingham back in the Premier League. I want to see the Blues playing Aston Villa and causing an upset, because the Villa fans have been so noisy on that side of the city over the last few years! I get so much stick from their fans.
"Birmingham City owners and Chris Davies, if you’re reading these comments, please get Birmingham back in the Premier League in the next couple of years and I’ll be a happy man!"
