BBC broadcaster Clive Myrie sent death threats and gorilla comparisons in post

BBC news reader Clive Myrie has revealed he has been sent disgusting hate male which includes death threats and cards with a picture of a gorilla on.

The thirty-year broadcast veteran revealed the BBC are currently attempting to prosecute the person who sent the death threat, which also targeted Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton and football pundit Garth Crooks.

Appearing on the ­Fortunately... with Fi and Jane podcast, the he 54-year-old said the racist abuse he has received in recent years is worse it has been in his three-decade long career.

He told podcast hosts Jane Garvey and Fi Glover: “I’ve had death threats. The BBC investigations unit is trying to prosecute this guy [who sent them].

“To be fair, I wasn’t the only one, Lewis Hamilton and Garth Crooks were in the same email. What do we have in common?”

He added: “There have been four or five in the last three years. I’ve been at the BBC 30 years and I can only recall one before that, so it is increasing.

“I did have a woman write in and say: ‘You have a f***-you ­attitude, you dress like a pimp and I think you should go and work somewhere else’.

“And I received a card in the post with a gorilla on the front. It said, we don’t want people like you on our TV screens. I just chucked it in the bin.”

Myrie went on to explain he tries not to let the abuse bother him, but admits it is “incredibly depressing”.

“Is it a problem for me? Not especially. I am black and there are people out there who don’t like black people, but there are also people who don’t like women doing things.

“You just ride with it. It’s incredibly depressing.”
