A CO-OP branch in Preston is set to permanently close this week.
It was announced via a notice board outside the Preston Road shop that the store would be closing its doors on Saturday, December 3.
However, jobs will be retained though with workers transferring to the new operator of the premises.
A Co-op spokesperson told the Echo: “Only after careful consideration has Co-op taken the decision to sell its store on Preston Road.
"The decision is in no way a reflection on the hard work and commitment of colleagues, who have been informed.
"The priority has been to fully support colleagues and safeguard local jobs, with colleagues transferring to the new operator - we would like to thank the community for its support of this store.”
It is unknown at this time who the buyer of the premises is.
The nearest alternative branch of the Co-op is located in Buxton Road, Weymouth, as well as a Southern Co-op store in Chickerell Road.
In the meantime, the closest local stores include a branch Spar located just a few hundred yards further along the road while there is a Chalbury stores corner shop further down the route on Chalbury Corner.
