Co Tyrone livestock lorry fire latest as over 40 hens saved and fundraiser launched
Over 40 hens have been saved and a fundraiser has been launched following after a lorry carrying livestock caught fire in Co Tyrone.
On Sunday, September 15, images showed smoke billowing from a truck carrying thousands of chickens on the Benburb Road in Moy, Co Tyrone. A number of hens were able to jump from the lorry following the blaze.
Staff from a nearby factory are believed to have helped round up the animals that escaped while vets were also in attendance. It's not known what caused the vehicle fire which occurred between The Square and Moy GAA Pitches.

Police closed the road for a number of hours while a recovery operation ensued, with the public being advised to avoid the area. Two appliances from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene after receiving the call at 5.52pm.
The team at Northern Ireland Battery Hen Rescue are among those who helped save hens from the scene of the lorry fire, and are now in the process of rehabilitating those who were rescued. So far, around 42 hens are being rehabilitated.
They thanked Parkland Vets in Dungannon who worked through the night with crates of live hens, assessing them, and humanely putting to sleep those too sick to recover from the ordeal.
Now, the battery hen rescue team have launched a fundraiser to help with their efforts in providing treatment for the "good few" hens they have in their care.
