Coach of the Year short-list announced with Hull KR's Willie Peters a talking point
Hull Kingston Rovers head coach Willie Peters has been named on the short-list for Super League coach of the year - and is joined on the list by Matt Peet, Mike Eccles and Paul Rowley.
The list is drawn up after coaches cast their votes. Peters' inclusion now makes up for his controversial exclusion from the four-man list in 2023, when former Robin Jon Wilkin was among those condemning the outcome. Sky Sports pundit Wilkin said at the time “Is that the full list? How’s Willie Peters not on the list?" and added "I'm just shocked, though. I think Willie Peters should be on that list without a shadow of a doubt."
This season, Rovers have performed even better in Super League than 2023 though - and that has led to Peters being recognised, with the fourth-placed finish of 2023 and play-off semi-final defeat against Wigan Warriors, being followed by second place in 2024 ahead of Friday night's play-off semi-final against Warrington Wolves.

The Man of Steel awards nominees are set to be announced tomorrow afternoon - and Hull KR's Mikey Lewis being short-listed would add to his recognition as the winner of the 2024 Rugby League Writers and Broadcasters Association Player of the Year. The presentation of the prizes will be at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Tuesday October 8.
