Coast Guard Assesses Hurricane Damage in Apalachicola Area

A Coast Guard crew aboard an HC-130 Hercules plane conducted an aerial assessment of damage in the Apalachicola area along Florida’s Panhandle on Thursday, October 11, a day after Hurricane Michael slammed the coast with 155 mph winds.

The area was one of the hardest hit, and on the ground assessments have been difficult because of washed out bridges and road and downed power lines and trees.

The Hercules crew also dropped buoys to measure the flow of storm surge in the area. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
