Coast Guard Evacuates Injured Yacht Crew Member Off Florida Coast

The US Coast Guard evacuated an injured mariner from the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship off Florida waters on November 18, a day after he was rescued from a luxury yacht.

According to Carnival Cruise Lines, the Ecstasy did not have guests, manned only by a skeleton crew, when they received a mayday call on Tuesday from a yacht named the “Balista.” The cruise ship was in the Bahamas, anchored about four nautical miles from the ship.

The Coast Guard later posted this footage showing the man’s evacuation via helicopter on Wednesday. The Coast Guard said the evacuation took place “approximately 17 miles east” of Fort Lauderdale. The man was taken to a local hospital. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
