Coast Guard, National Guard Practice Ferry Service in Georgetown

The US Coast Guard and the South Carolina National Guard practiced on September 24 the capabilities of the National Guard’s “floating ribbon bridges,” installed in the waters at Georgetown ahead of flooding heading downriver.

The floating bridges are essentially ferries that can help move essential emergency equipment across the floodwaters. While the units tested the weight-bearing capabilities of the bridges, they also scouted for appropriate landing sites. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
