Coca-Cola is keeping a close eye on the growth of the marijuana-infused drinks market, the company said in a report on Monday.

The world’s largest beverage maker was recently the focus of reports suggesting it was in discussions with Aurora Cannabis Inc, a licensed cannabis producer in Canada.

According to BNN Bloomberg, talks about a possible product tie-up coincides with Coke working to overcome demand for sugary drinks by moving towards healthier products.

The report released on Monday said there were no guarantee talks between Coca-Cola and Aurora, whose shares responded by rocketing by 22 per cent, would be successful.

If a partnership does come to fruition, the collaboration would mark the first entry of a major non-alcoholic drinks brand into the market for marijuana-related products.

As Canada and a handful of American states move towards legalising marijuana, a number of corporate giants have reportedly been showing their interest in the industry.

While remaining cautious as the drug remains illegal in the US, both companies said they were interested in products infused with cannabidiol.

While neither would comment on any market speculation, BNN suggested both would likely produce drinks which will ease pain, inflammation and cramping.
