Coca-Cola Is Discontinuing a Flavor After Just 7 Months on Shelves

So much for a "permanent" flavor.

Coca-Cola has been known to create some seriously delicious flavors over the years—starting with its classic and forever fan-favorite Coke and Diet Coke. The innovations have gotten wildly creative, with Coke flavors created by AI, fruity-flavored summertime sodas, and even a Coke that tastes like Oreo cookies. And, if you can’t find a flavor you want, you can always create your own at a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine.

Despite the brand’s popularity, not every one of its new flavor releases can be winners—and it seems that’s what happened with its Coca-Cola Spiced soda, which debuted in February. Despite Coca-Cola Spiced being introduced to markets as a permanent fixture in Coca-Cola’s portfolio, in the words of “Dance Moms” teacher Abby Lee Miller, everyone’s replaceable.

Coca-Cola Discontinuing Coca-Cola Spiced

Coca-Cola announced that it is discontinuing its Coca-Cola Spiced and Coca-Cola Spiced Zero Sugar just seven months after it was introduced.

“We have made the decision to remove Coca-Cola Spiced from retail stores by the end of 2024,” Coca-Cola wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Coca-Cola Spiced, which features a blend of raspberry and spiced flavors, was Coke’s first new permanent flavor in three years. Its debut immediately sparked mixed reactions from customers, with some enjoying the flavor while many others weren’t as pleased.

“Seemingly unpopular opinion: This is the absolute best Coke flavor since Dreamworld,” one Reddit user wrote.

“I took one sip and the Robitussin from childhood was immediately awakened again,” another wrote on Reddit.

A few customers were disappointed that Coke Spiced, a mix of raspberry and spices, didn’t live up to the same hype as the discontinued Coca-Cola Raspberry, which was a Coca-Cola Freestyle-exclusive flavor.

With the lackluster response, it sounds like many Coke fans weren’t surprised by this move. In April, a Reddit user shared an image of a promotional deal where you could receive a free 12-pack of Coca-Cola Spiced with any 24-pack Coca-Cola purchase alongside the caption, “Coca-Cola Spiced ain't doing so hot.” And, about two months ago, another Reddit user posted that a Coca-Cola delivery person stocking their local Kroger store told them Spiced was likely to be discontinued.

The good news for Coca-Cola Spiced fans is that Coke isn’t pulling the soda from shelves immediately. So, you might be able to find a few cases or bottles left at stores to stock up.

It doesn’t seem like any Coca-Cola flavors will replace Spiced as a permanent offering just yet, but maybe this is a chance to see a discontinued fan favorite make a comeback.
