Cockpit Cameras Reveal Shoreham Crash Clues

Footage from the cockpit of a jet which crashed at an airshow showed it "appeared to be responding to the pilot's control inputs".

Eleven people died after the Hawker Hunter plane failed to pull out of a stunt during the airshow on 22 August, plunging on to the busy A27 road and exploding.

The initial report by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) added that the cockpit footage revealed no "abnormal indications" during the flight.

Sky News reporter Katie Spencer says the seven-page report reveals there was a daily inspection carried out on the plane the day before the show and the pilot also carried out a pre-flight inspection on the day of the show.

There were no defects reported from either inspection.

"The pilot was described as being in good spirits and the weather was described as being good as well," she said.

"The flight to the airshow was uneventful and the pilot made a practice roll on his way there, flipping the plane on its side...and was able to revert the plane back again, so he carried on."

Investigators from the AAIB are reviewing a massive amount of information from those at the show or nearby, including video recordings and photographs.

The wreckage of the jet is being examined by AAIB investigators in Farnborough, Hampshire.

West Sussex senior coroner Penelope Schofield opened and adjourned an inquest into the deaths at a hearing in Horsham on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as retired engineer James Graham Mallinson, 72; window cleaner and builder Mark Trussler, 54; cycling friends Dylan Archer, 42, and Richard Smith, 26; NHS manager Tony Brightwell, 53; grandfather Mark Reeves, 53; Worthing United footballers Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, both 23; personal trainer Matt Jones, 24; wedding chauffeur Maurice Abrahams, 76; and Daniele Polito, 23.

The jet's pilot, Andrew Hill, is being treated in a specialist hospital.
