Coldplay have given fans a surprise by releasing an announced new song following their appearance at the Brit Awards.

The British band, fronted by Chris Martin, dropped Hypnotised on Thursday before announcing plans for new EP, Kaleidoscope.

The forthcoming five-track EP will be a ‘sister release’ to the band’s 2015 chart-topper A Head Full of Dreams.

Hypnotised will feature alongside new songs All I Can Think About Is You, Miracles and A L I E N S on the new EP, set for release on June 2.

Something Just Like This, the band’s recent collaboration with Chainsmokers, finishes off the tracklist.

Following their surprise collaboration at last week’s Brits, Coldplay and Chainsmoker’s new song broke YouTube’s single-day streaming record.

The track racked up nine million views in just 24 hours and went on to debut at Number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 over in the US.

As well as the record-breaking duet, Martin also performed a surprise tribute to late superstar George Michael at the ceremony.

The rendition of A Different Corner alongside a screen showing the singer, who tragically died on Christmas Day, received mixed reviews as some viewers dubbed it the wrong song choice.

"Watching the Brits" Oh my! George Michael you have just affected my tearducts yet again. ..#ChrisMartin , you did good,” one person wrote.

Another added: “Was welling up after that speech from Pepsi, Shirley and Andrew. Then Chris Martin comes on and murders A Different Corner!”
