Update: Anfield source denies that Coldplay are coming to the stadium

Coldplay recently added more dates to their Music Of The Spheres World Tour in 2025. The tour initially bypassed the UK but today, September 17, eight new dates have been added for Hull's Craven Park Stadium and London's Wembley Stadium.

Promoters have stated these new dates will be the only UK/European shows Coldplay will play in 2025 but fans think otherwise. Recently, a passenger spotted a mysterious message many linked to the band on the 20.44pm Avanti West Coast train travelling from London to Liverpool Lime Street on Saturday, September 7. The message read: 'Everyone is an alien somewhere'.

Coldplay have made references to the idea that everyone is an "alien" somewhere in their lyrics and in interviews over the years. The band also has merchandise bearing the phrase.

The cryptic message particularly relates to the band's hit 'Alien', which features on the Kaleidoscope EP, released in 2017. Fans are now speculating this could mean Coldplay will be coming to Liverpool in 2025 as part of their European tour.

There's a possibility Coldplay could add extra dates in Liverpool and this "alien" message was the first hint towards doing so. Presumably, demand for the UK dates would need to be confirmed first and right now the Liverpool shows are purely speculation.

However, extra dates in Liverpool would follow in the wake of Dua Lipa who just last week confirmed her Radical Optosim tour for Anfield Stadium. So far, one show has been confirmed for Tuesday, June 24, 2025, with tickets available on pre-sale tomorrow.

Everton’s director of technology, Phil Davies, confirmed the upcoming 52,888-capacity stadium will have the potential to hold live music and gigs. However, given the stadium's operational infancy at the time Coldplay are in the UK, the band may opt for Anfield Stadium instead.

Anfield Stadium is more than capable of delivering a Coldplay concert. With a 61,276 capacity, the stadium just recently held sold-out shows from pop heavyweights P!nk and Taylor Swift. The Liverpool ECHO has reached out to Live Nation promoters and Coldplay's team to confirm any potential dates for Liverpool.

It wouldn't be the first time Coldplay have used cryptic messaging to hint at developments in their career. Back in October 2019, the tracklist for their new album Everyday Life was published for the first time in the classified adverts section of our sister title the North Wales Daily Post.

The move made headlines around the world, with then-Post editor Andrew Campbell making several appearances on radio and TV. When asked who spotted the advert he said: "Well, none of us did to be honest. It was a fairly understated and innocuous advert in the classified section."

He revealed that a private caller contacted the newspaper. Andrew added: "We don't know who it was, it could have been someone from the record company. We phoned up the record company and eventually they confirmed yes it was a world exclusive announcement in the classified section of the Daily Post."
