Colin Firth and his wife Livia Giuggoli have admitted that a man accused of stalking the couple was actually the latter’s lover.

After film producer Giuggoli, 48, accused a journalist Marco Brancaccia, 55, of stalking her it’s now come out that she was in fact involved in a romantic relationship with him, despite being married to Oscar-winning actor Firth, 57.

Brancaccia has always denied the accusation, telling The Times that the pair were in fact seeing each other and that she was lying to cover the fact.

In a statement, it confirms the couple secretly separated for a short period of time and that, despite initial silence on the so-called ‘affair’, it did happen.

‘A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr. Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited,’ it began.

‘Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented. For obvious reasons, the Firths have never had any desire to make this matter public.

‘The reporting this week on this case is understood to be the consequence of a leaked court document. This is greatly to be regretted,’ it concluded.

Having been publicly declared a ‘frightening harasser’, the journalist wished to tell his side of the story: ‘She wanted to leave Colin for me,’ Brancaccia revealed to the newspaper, as he clarified what the alleged ‘stalking’ actually entailed.

‘My ‘stalking’ consisted of two messages via WhatsApp after she ended our relationship in June 2016, and an email. I wrote an email to Colin about my relationship with Livia, which I now regret sending, and she filed a complaint against me for stalking out of fear that I could go public with what she had revealed to me about her marriage and work.’

‘In a year she sent me hundreds of messages of love, photos and videos, even a diary,’ he went on to say.

With the secret relationship now put to bed and the Firths still together and married, it’s now known that the they’re back together and giving it another go, after being married since 1997. The couple also have two sons Matteo, 14, and Luca, 16.
