College Football Star Toni Harris Is Here to Give You a Pep Talk: 'You Are What Beauty Looks Like'
Toni Harris, the first female collegiate safety and NFL ambassador, knows about standing out in a crowd
Toni Harris is tackling any negativity.
Harris, who was the first female safety on a college football team and only the second-ever female player to earn a full college scholarship, knows a thing or two about playing defense. But on days off the field, she knows sometimes you need to be on offense against any confidence issues.
In her new video for PEOPLE and e.l.f.’s Pep Talks series, Harris applies her makeup for the day (using e.l.f.'s Halo Glow Liquid Filter foundation, Lash XTENDER mascara and Glow Reviver tinted lip oil, while talking viewers through her routine — as well as her approach to staying in a positive mindset.
"Sometimes as women, we don't always feel our best, especially a woman like me in a male-dominated sport," she says in the video as she starts her beauty routine. "It can be excruciating. Sometimes I don't feel beautiful because the only thing people see me as is a football player."
Harris was homecoming queen and football player at her high school before going on to win a scholarship to Central Methodist University; she has starred in a Toyota Super Bowl ad and serves as an NFL ambassador. But even someone with her phenomenal résumé can have moments of self-doubt.
She overcomes that by talking herself up, and encourages you to do the same.
"If you feel like you're not feeling beautiful sometimes, you just look in the mirror and tell yourself: You are beautiful. You are confident. And you are what beauty looks like."
Check out Harris' Instagram for more of her on- and off-field achievements and don't forget to take her advice to heart on game day and beyond.
