Colombia prepares for signing of historic peace deal

Colombia’s Caribbean town of Cartagena is preparing to host the signing of an historic peace deal between the Colombian government and Farc rebels. (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) Around 2,500 people and foreign dignitaries are due to attend. President Juan Manuel Santos and long-time foe, FARC commander Rodrigo Londono alias Timochenko, will sign the final peace in an event presided over by United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, the High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al Hussein and the head of the Security Council. Cuba helped facilitate four years of peace talks leading to the deal which ends 52 years of civil war that have left a quarter of a million people dead. Colombian voters still need to give their approval in a referendum scheduled for next month.
