Colombian Police Thank 'Brave' Citizens Who Formed Human Chain Between Them and Angry Protesters

Police in Colombia thanked “brave and exemplary” citizens who were seen in a video they released on May 5 forming a human chain between officers and an angry crowd of protesters.

The incident, on May 4, came amid an outcry from rights groups and the UN over a violent crackdown on protests sparked by a now-shelved tax-reform plan.

At least 24 people have been killed since protests began late in April, according to media reports. One local NGO has put the figure at 37. Credit: Colombia National Police via Storyful
