Colorado Butcher teaches US army an important skills: to prepare wild game to eat during missions

A butcher in Colorado, US is teaching the Army Special Forces how to safely prepare meat when they are on missions. Because some of the food sent to deployed troops doesn’t always meet FDA standards, knowing how to properly cut and prepare meat is a survival skill for most men on the field. Jason Nauert has been field dressing game since he was a kid and was hired by the army to teach the Special Forces how to prepare game they might kill during missions. “This [field dressing game] gives them a way to handle it [meat] from beginning to end and eat cleanly and healthily, says Nauert, “because the last thing you want are sick soldiers that can’t complete missions.” Nauert will stop at nothing to teach his expertise to the troops. The butcher, who is allergic to wild game, carries an epi-pen during training sessions so that his sickness doesn’t keep him away from field dressing. “They do so much for us so I mean I’m an open book, I’ll tell them anything and everything they want to know,” he said. Nauert said he will even help men who wish to open a sandwich or sandwich shop after their service.
