Colorado Elk Lets Out Piercing Bugle as Mating Season Gets Underway
A Colorado elk let out a piercing bugle during mating season, as seen in this footage recorded by Dave Masters on September 16.
The elk mating season is at its peak mid-September to mid-October. The purpose of the bugle is for the male elk to attract the attention of as many female elks as possible. However, some research indicates that certain types of bugles can mean different things.
Dave Masters, who recorded the footage, lives in Evergreen, Colorado, which hosts a range of wildlife. According to his Facebook page, Masters likes to “take advantage of the area to compose pictures in an effort to not only share nature with others but to continue to enhance his photography quality.” Credit: Dave Masters via Storyful
