A brushfire broke out at Cherry Creek State Park in Colorado on Sunday, February 7, spurring evacuation orders
South Metro firefighters responded to the fire Sunday afternoon in Cherry Creek State Park, located in Aurora.
Evacuations were ordered for homes near the park as crews remained on the scene fighting the “very active” fire into Sunday night even as snow started to fall. Firefighters said conditions were cold enough to freeze water pumps on the fire engines. Evacuation orders were later lifted.
On Monday morning, the South Metro Fire Rescue reported that the fire was not growing larger, but cautioned that windy and dry conditions would challenge ongoing containment efforts. Credit: South Metro Fire Rescue via Storyful
