Colwyn Bay murderer launches bid to cut her prison sentence
A woman convicted of killing a grandfather in his home in Colwyn Bay has launched a bid to reduce her sentence. Lauren Harris, 30, who is originally from the Llandudno area, and David Webster, 43, of Lacey Street, Widnes, Cheshire were found guilty this summer of murdering Mark Wilcox.
Mr Wilcox had been in a relationship with Ms Harris and supported her despite financial difficulties. But the 65-year-old was found stabbed and battered to death in his flat in Colwyn Bay last November. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here.
Harris was sentenced to life in prison for murder with a minimum of 25 years imprisonment. The judge sentenced David Webster to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years before he will be eligible to apply for parole.

Mr Justice Pepperall told Harris: "You used the knife and crashed his car. Your case is aggravated by abuse of your partner's trust. I detect no remorse." He added that was possible they murdered him when the money ran out.
Now Harris has requested leave to appeal. Anyone convicted of an offence at the Crown Court may apply for leave to appeal against their sentence.
This should include the 'grounds of appeal' with an argument to support each point raised. They will need to show that the sentence was manifestly excessive or wrong in law.
The application will initially be considered by a single judge who will determine if there is sufficient merit in the appeal to allow it to go to a full hearing before the Court of Appeal.
