COMEDY classic The Ladykillers will be the final showing of Skipton Film Club before it goes off on its summer break.

The 1955 black and white Ealing comedy directed by Alexander Mackendrick and staring a who's who of some of the greatest comics of their generation will be shown at Skipton Plaza cinema on Sunday, June 4.

Funny, yet dark, it tells the story of a group of gangsters masquerading as musicians, led by Alec Guinness and including Peter Sellers, Cecil Parker and Herbert Lom.

The gang's heist goes spectacularly wrong when they come up against eccentric landlady, Katie Johnson, and her equally eccentric friends when they meet for a tea party.

Paul Valentine, of Skipton Film Club, said: "This is the last movie of our season – we would like to thank Charles Morris, the owner of the Plaza and all his staff who have made the season possible, and of course all the people who have come to our screenings in increasingly high numbers.

"We are currently formulating another exciting season of great cinema to start in September."

The Ladykillers on June 4 starts at 5.15pm. Members and non-members welcome – further info on the club's Facebook page.
