Comic Relief US are shooting an extra scene for Love Actually sequel - and Laura Linney is returning

Gah, this Love Actually sequel is just the gift that keeps on giving, with it being confirmed that we will be able to catch up with another much-loved character from the 2003 movie for the US version of Comic Relief.

If we carry on like this we’ll have a feature-length sequel in no time.

Red Nose Day Actually impressed fans when it aired on Friday, with the 10-minute skit giving us an insight into how our favourite characters are getting on over a decade after the film aired.

Spoiler alert: They all lived happily ever after… (Kind of).

However, one much-loved original was missing from the sequel, with viewers left desperate to find out what happened to Laura Linney’s character, Sarah.

In case you somehow can’t remember, Sarah was hopelessly in love with her colleague Karl (the hunky Rodrigo Santoro) but her mentally ill brother’s dependence on her interrupted her chance of love.

The film ended with Sarah and Karl still not together, but we are definitely keeping our fingers crossed that Santoro has also signed up for the reunion and that we will see that they too got their happy ending.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Linney explained: “I’d done something for the last Red Nose Day. So I’d kept in touch with Richard Curtis.

“And then he sent me an email, explaining this short film reunion. I said yes, obviously. How could I say no? And right away we were figuring out our schedules.”

However, she insists that she has no idea on what Sarah is up to, adding: “I have no idea what I’m doing yet. Not a clue.”

As well as Sarah and Karl, Kris Marshall’s much-loved character of Colin Frissell was also notably absent from the reunion alongside Martin Freeman and Joanna Page’s John and Judy.

Emma Thompson was another to opt out of the sequel as Alan Rickman, who played her on-screen husband, sadly died last year and she felt that it would not be appropriate to appear without him.

However, the new film did manage to give us multiple happy endings – including Andrew Lincoln’s lovesick character of Mark revealing that he’s now shacked up with none other than Kate Moss, Jamie and Aurelia are happily married with three children and another on the way, Natalie and Daniel are still together – with Daniel returning as PM – and little Sam and Joanna are all grown up and hopelessly in love.

Sarah’s scene will be added to the original Red Nose Day Actually film and will air in the US on NBC, May 25.
