Comedians Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont have announced their decision to divorce after nine years of marriage, releasing a shock statement.

The couple stated: "After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated. We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways" reports the Mirror.

They requested privacy during this challenging time, for the sake of their daughter, stating: "As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment," as reported by PA news agency.

The pair are recognised for their joint project Meet the Richardsons, where they portray exaggerated versions of themselves.

The fifth series of the show began this month, with Lucy receiving a BAFTA TV award nomination for female performance in a comedy programme category in 2023.

Earlier this month, Lucy discussed the challenges of working with her husband in an interview with OK! Magazine.

She said: "It's a great working environment because it feels like a big group of friends", but she also pointed out one downside to working with her spouse.

"It's a shame that you can't see the crew off-camera because most of them have worked on the show from the beginning. It's like a holiday for them."

The television comedian hinted at the finale of Meet The Richardsons, following its fifth series run on Dave.

"This will probably be the last one, and we're going out on a high", she declared, adding a taster of what's to come: "It carries on from series four."

The comedy duo Lucy and Jon were introduced by their mutual mate and comedian Roisin Conaty, and after courting for two whole years, they tied the knot in April, 2015.

While on The Jonathon Ross Show, Jon shared his initial reluctance towards the relationship, saying: "Roisin Conaty set us up and for months I said 'if you like this girl don't get us involved because I'll ruin her f**king life'."

He disclosed his reasons for rejecting the initial setup, stating: "I was very depressed and I thought, why drag someone else down with me."

But Jon finally agreed to date Lucy, and he amusingly admitted that he saved her contact as 'My Wife' before they even met.

A year after tying the knot, in September 2016, the couple welcomed their first child.

Reflecting on her traumatic birth experience during a discussion with The Mirror in 2021, Lucy described how she had been rushed into theatre for an emergency C-section and dealt with the impending severity of the situation by making a joke.

She remembered, "The nurses looked exhausted and I just thought I'd cheer them up. I think I thought I was on the Royal Variety performance or something although I can't remember what I was saying".

In late February 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Meet The Richardsons premiered on Dave. It has since enjoyed enormous success.

The series features both comedians as they portray dramatised versions of themselves going about their daily lives in a mockumentary-style format.
