Commonwealth Games medal table: Final standings and results at Birmingham 2022 as Australia beat England

Australia have beaten Team England to top spot in the Commonwealth Games medal table.

The Aussies took gold in the men’s hockey final on Monday, thrashing India 7-0 to win an incredible seventh title in a row. England went on to produce a spirited fightback for the bronze against South Africa.

The last medal of a memorable competition went to the hosts in the men’s squash doubles, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overhaul their old rivals.

England’s 57 golds was 10 short of Australia’s tally, although they were just two behind on overall medals. Canada finished a distant third behind the top two, with the top five rounded off by India and New Zealand.

Scotland placed sixth after 11 days of competition across the sporting disciplines, followed by Nigeria, Wales, South Africa and Malaysia, the latter of whom knocked Northern Ireland down into 11th spot.

Australia will play host to the Commonwealth Games in four years’ time, when the event heads to Victoria.

Here’s the final medal table and standings at Birmingham 2022...
