Yahoo News Community might still get a movie
They did always promise six seasons and a movie, and it looks like Dan Harmon's Community may still deliver just that.
The wacky comedy from the mind of Rick and Morty co-creator Harmon, Community's history represents one of the most troubled comedy shows of the 21st century.
Dodging cancellation (twice), Community finally made it to season 6 – albeit on Yahoo's streaming service – leaving fans to question if we will ever get that elusive movie too.
The final episode aired on (the now defunct) Yahoo Screen back in 2015, and it has been all quiet on the Community front ever since.
However, speaking to The Wrap, Harmon fondly remembered that even though those behind Community have gone on to some major projects, they haven't closed the college just yet.
"I keep having conversations with the kinds of people that could make it happen," promised Harmon. "The Russo brothers moved from Community to becoming industry shapers. So did one of our most popular directors, Justin Lin, who directed the first paintball episode."
He also revealed that talks with Fast & Furious director Lin may have sparked further interest in a big-screen outing for Greendale Community College.
"I hope I'm not talking out of school by saying that. I'll get together with him every once in a while, or we'll have dinner, and we're talking - we keep trying to figure out how to do this," said Harmon. "Those are the kinds of guys, the Russos, plus Justin, plus a humble little me - maybe there is a way to secure the money and the momentum to make something happen. But fingers crossed - don't want to jinx it."
Nothing is written in stone, but Community fans might want to prepare to head back to school for another semester of learning and lunacy with a movie some day.
Featuring madcap episodes of claymation, Goodfellas spoofs, and even a Community video game, the comedy had something for everyone's twisted taste.
Season 6 may have been a shadow of the show's former glory, but despite losing key cast members like Chevy Chase and Donald Glover, it's hard not to forget the brilliance of Community's early days.
Perhaps it's time to get #SixSeasonsAndAMovie trending again. Who wouldn't want to see Joel McHale and co. in another paintball Hunger Games?
