The Rutherglen Community Safety Awareness team will be holding their final event of the year later this month.

As well as providing practical information on subjects such as home fire safety, the team will be giving away some free goodies at Rutherglen Exchange Shopping Centre on Tuesday, November 26 between 10am and 1pm.

Organiser Barry Cathie started up the community safety team to try and combat antisocial behaviour and to prevent the elderly and vulnerable being targeted by scammers and fraudsters.

He also wanted to help people deter crime in the community by encouraging them to join Neighbourhood Watch and to report criminal activity.

He said: “People can come and chat to us about all manner of things. It also helps reassure them that they are never alone in time of need and we are there to offer support.

“Id like to say thanks to our partners from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, South Lanarkshire Council’s Trading Standards and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland, also special thanks to the shopping centre manager Jane Cowan for her continuous support and hospitality.”

New dates for next year’s events will be advertised in due course.
