Trains Delayed After Commuters ‘Throw Coffee And Fight In First Class Carriage’

Commuters were left facing lengthy delays on Monday after a fight erupted between two men in the first class carriage of a train bound for London.

Eyewitnesses say that the two men began throwing coffee over each other on the 6.29am service from Littlehampton in Sussex to London Bridge after clashing over a lack of seating on the train.

Police were called to Hove station shortly after 7am, where the train was held for 30 minutes.

But while it eventually did get moving again, the train ended up being severely behind schedule, forcing train operators Southern to terminate the service at Gatwick.

In a series of angry tweets, fellow passengers described the two men as ‘clowns’ and angrily bemoaned how they had been late for work.

British Transport Police say that they attended the incident but confirmed that no arrests were made.

A spokesman said: ‘We were called to Hove station at 7.19am on Monday, May 23 to reports of an assault on board a train.

‘Officers attended and spoke to two men about the alleged incident.

‘No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.’
