Commuters Soaked After Floodwater Engulfs Auckland Bus

Commuters onboard an Auckland bus found there was no escaping the torrential rain that wreaked havoc in the New Zealand capital on January 27, after floodwater inundated the vehicle.

Footage by Adam Millen shows a deluge of floodwater spilling over a road barrier and rushing into the bus.

Millen told Storyful, “A few of us got soaked feet, and it smelled bad. But there was no real harm done,” he said.

Millen added on Twitter, “Some folks who had been standing on the floor climbed up onto the luggage spot!”

He told Storyful that the driver got out of the bus “on the other side of the water” to warn buses coming the other way against the depth of the floodwater.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown declared a state of emergency in the region on January 27, and many sections of the SH1 motorway were closed due to the flooding. Credit: Adam Millen via Storyful
