'Complex repairs' on shut Burslem road as winter snap wreaks havoc
Engineers are today carrying out 'complex repairs' on a busy city road after it fell victim to the overnight wintry snap. Moorland Road, in Burslem, remains shut due to a burst water pipe.
StokeonTrentLive reported earlier today how residents reported the road looked 'flooded' with some branding it 'a river' as ice-cold water gushed down the stretch close to Burslem Park. It's understood engineers from Severn Trent were first called in at around 4am with repairs now ongoing.
The crews, working amid a backdrop of cold temperatures, are aiming to get the route back open 'as soon as possible'. The issues on the stretch, between the Lingard Street turning and the lower entrance to the park, come after the Potteries and North Staffordshire has been left reeling from heavy snow and plummeting temperatures.

StokeonTrentLive has already reported today how part of Bemersley Road near to Biddulph Recycling Centre remains shut off due to a fallen tree. Meanwhile another tree fell on Lightwood Road in Lightwood where council crews have been sent in.
Over on the A50 and three trucks and a coach were involved in a smash which left one HGV in a field and the eastbound carriageway shut off for over 10 hours. Overnight and Staffordshire Police urged drivers to stay away from the A50 after being scrambled to several reports of vehicles getting stuck as the wintry conditions battered the county.
Last night and police were also said to be on Ladderedge in Leek where there were 'cars all over the place'. Earlier this morning and some drivers claim to have seen cars abandoned in Longsdon.
The rail network hasn't been spared from issues either with a tree falling on the track between Blythe Bridge and Longton - leaving East Midlands Railway services suspended.
On Moorland Road and works are ongoing to repair the burst water pipe with a number of Severn Trent wagons at the scene.
A spokesperson said: “Our teams are currently working to repair a burst water pipe in the Moorland Road area of Burslem. Unfortunately, we have had to close Moorland Road to keep our employees and members of the public safe while we carry out these works. We want to thank everyone for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience as we work to complete these complex repairs and then get the road back to normal as soon as possible.”
