'Concern' message to public after Walsall blood spillage closes road
Walsall Manor Hospital chiefs have issued a health and safety message to the public after a blood spillage incident on Friday afternoon, October 18. Processed blood samples coming from Walsall's Manor Hospital were spilled on Alumwell Road, close to the junction of Moat Road on Friday afternoon.
As a result of the spill, traffic was not able to access Alumwell Road at the junction of Moat Road, where the hospital is based. A clean up operation got underway into Friday afternoon, with Walsall Manor saying the road closure was necessary to ensure a thoroguh clean up.
They confirmed the road closure was temporary, and thanked the community for their patience as patients were advised to find different routes. Following the incident, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which covers Walsall Manor Hospital, issued a message to patients on Saturday morning, October 19.

They confirmed that approximately five hours after the initial road closure and clean-up operation, the processed blood samples were cleared from Alumwell Road and full access to the route was restored. However they did warn members of the public that if they saw any items that caused concern or worry, to call the main hospital switchboard.
A Walsall Manor Hospital spokesperson said: "This incident has now been cleared and the road is now open. If you see any items that cause concern please contact our switchboard on 01922 721172."
It is business as usual this morning at the hospital, with access fully restored for patients. The Trust also hosted their volunteer and charity awards on Friday night, where they were praised for their contribution to the hospital and community services.
