Nottingham Forest have completed their swoop for Porto defender David Carmo.

The centre back has signed a five year deal for a reported €15million – but Reds fans will have to wait to see him as he spends the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Evangelos Marinakis-owned Olympiacos.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season with the Greek club where he won the Europa Conference League.

The Portuguese-born Angola international moved from Braga to Porto for €20m in the summer of 2022. He has only made 27 appearances since then but he did win the Portuguese Cup in 2023, having previously won it in 2021.

In announcing their ninth signing of the summer Forest said in a statement on their website : “He also has a wealth of European competition experience registering nine appearances in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa Conference League for FC Porto and Olympiacos respectively, as well as 11 in the UEFA Europa League for S.C. Braga.

“During the early stages of his career, Carmo was part of Portugal’s 2018 UEFA European Under-19 Championship squad featuring four times as he helped his nation become champions in Finland.

We wish David all the best for his season at Olympiacos.”

Forest are well-stocked in the middle of their defence with Willy Boly benched in favour of Murillo and Nikola Milenković for the 1-0 victory at Southampton. Andrew Omobamidele was an unused substitute at St Mary’s.
