Gunfire erupts across Kinshasa as Congolese protest leader

KINSHASA (Reuters) - Gunfire could be heard in several districts of Congo's capital Kinshasa early on Tuesday, as demonstrators demanded that President Joseph Kabila steps down after his mandate expired at midnight. Reuters witnesses in different parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital heard repeated gunshots, and one saw youths burning tires in the street. Protesters also set off fireworks, a Reuters witness said. (Reporting by Tim Cocks, Aaron Ross and Amedee Mwarabu; editing by G Crosse)
