Conor McGregor retires LIVE: Why has UFC fighter retired, WWE rumours, net worth, whisky and twitter reactions

Conor McGregor has announced his retirement from UFC.

The 30-year-old took to Twitter in the early hours of Tuesday morning to confirm that he is calling time on a career that finished with 21-4 record.

McGregor became one of sport’s biggest stars, winning performance of the night three times in succession after defeating Diego Brandao, Dustin Poirier and Chad Mendes

He would then fight at UFC 194 which saw him take the interim featherweight title with a knockout of Jose Aldo inside 13 seconds.

Defeat by Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in his welterweight debut was his first in UFC and halted a 15-fight winning streak, but he would soon bounce back – beating Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship to become the sport's first dual-weight champion.

There was of course, also, the 'Money Fight' Floyd Mayweather as McGregor made his professional boxing debut.

The bout generated more than a million pay per view buyers in the UK and four million in the United States, with the Mayweather defeating McGregor in the 10th round by TKO.
