Conservative Club to close with 'deep regret'
The looming shutdown of a Runcorn social club has been met with dismay by some who said it was "a great loss" to the community.
The Runcorn Conservative Club, affectionately known as 'The Conny Club', took to social media recently to announce its final farewell, set for Saturday, November 30.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the club's owners said: "With deep regret we announce that the conny club will soon be closing its doors due to circumstances beyond our control. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers, past and present, for their support and loyalty over the years. Thank you for being a part of our journey."
They said it was "business as usual" until the closing date. A regular customer shared his thoughts on the post, describing the venue as a 'hub' for community life.
He commented: "The conny club has been a local community hub for years with something for everyone - snooker, darts, pool and bingo. Members of all ages met and many lasting friendships were made. With a great team, service was always with a smile and a chat. This is a great loss for the community and a sad day."
David Gray, chair of the Halton branch of The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), said: "I am very sorry to hear that the Conny Club is closing. I believe it has been very well supported in the local area and it is sad to see places that the community use shut their doors."
The club declined to comment further.
