The Conservative Party have been accused of lying on an official election document.

A row broke out on social media after it was claimed that people should vote Tory as there is only a small amount of time before EU leaders finalise their position on Brexit.

Campaigners have pointed out that Brussels has already agreed its position.

The row has broken out at the same time as Conservatives police ruled out laying charges against Tories for breaches of expenses rules over the 2015 general election “battle bus”.

The leaflet, which appears to come from the election campaign in Norfolk, states that there is a “one-off chance while EU leaders agree stance”.

“We only have a short time to hold an election before EU leaders agree their position on negotiations,” it read, referring to Brexit.

But critics have pointed out this untrue.

One, a European Union and human rights lawyer, Steve Peers, responded on Twitter: “A Conservative election leaflet with an outright lie. EU leaders adopted their Brexit negotiation position on April 29th.”

Opponents said the party should be “called out” to the Electoral Commission watchdog.

Peers’ message has been retweeted almost 1,000 times.
