Construction begins on new 38-bed care home in Coventry
Construction has begun on a new 38-bedroom care home in Coventry. It is being built on the former site of St Nicholas Church in Radford.
Designed by Watson Batty Architects, the three-storey home will be named Birch View. It is the fifth project by Deeley Construction in partnership with Exemplar Health Care.
Birch View will provide nursing care for adults living with complex needs such as dementia, mental health conditions, neuro-disabilities, physical disabilities, and brain injuries. Work on the new care facility is expected to be completed by June 2026.

It will include features on each floor to support nursing care, as well as quiet rooms, a sensory garden, an activities hub, and lounge areas to help people 'maximise independence.' When completed, the city-based home is expected to create 100 new jobs.
Paul Simmons, Head of Construction at Exemplar Health Care, said: “Our aim is to make every day better for the people we support by providing person-centred care that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills, and empowering people.
“Once complete, the home will create a significant number of local healthcare employment opportunities while also making sure the local community has access to a much-needed complex needs care service. It is our ambition for the home to be a place where our residents can be part of the community, whether through visiting local attractions, work placements, or local events.”
Work has begun on the new 38-bed care home following the demolition of St Nicholas Church. Plans to redevelop the site were approved by Coventry City Council in September 2024. Features, including the bells, cross, and plaque, were collected prior to the demolition and have been retained.
Deeley Group, which is headquartered in Coventry, has worked with the landowners to bring forward the redevelopment project. Martin Gallagher, Managing Director at Deeley Construction, said: “For more than 85 years we have delivered projects that have had a lasting positive impact on communities in Coventry.”
He continued: “Our new care home, being delivered in partnership with Exemplar Health Care, continues that track record and will address the growing need for adults with complex care needs in Coventry.”
Stephen Davenport, of the Diocese of Coventry, added: “It has been of utmost importance to the Diocese that any development on the site was of benefit to the local community, and we are delighted that the care home will not only provide help for those receiving support but will offer new career opportunities in Radford.”
