Construction on an Edinburgh hotel with a bar, restaurant and outdoor terrace has started.

The project, which will see hotel group MEININGER open in spring 2026, will transform a '70s office building in Haymarket. After part demolition of the existing structure, two new wings will be created as well as an additional storey.

S Harrison announced a deal with the European hotel group last year - who operate 36 hotels across the continent. Each location features it's own unique design, with "flexible and affordable" accommodation.

They opened their first spot in 1999, and now has locations in Cologne, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Milan, Paris, Rome and Vienna.

The building sits only a few minutes walk from Haymarket Station, and is within walking distance of Princes Street. The Edinburgh hotel will have 157 bedrooms, with a mix of rooms including doubles ad private multiple-bed rooms. There will also be a taxi drop off area, disabled parking and secure cycle store.
