The Caldor Fire in El Dorado County, California, was 53 percent contained at 217,946 acres (about 341 square miles) as of Thursday, September 9, fire officials said.
This footage released by Cal Fire on Wednesday shows thick orange smoke clouding trees and an aircraft dropping water on the blaze.
The fire had destroyed 778 single residences, 18 commercial properties, and damaged 80 other structures as of Thursday, Cal Fire reported.
